Performances

In addition to supporting promising vocal students, we give back to the community by bringing music to the elderly and seeking collaborations with other nonprofit organizations which contribute to the San Diego community.

CCSD performs at a dozen or more San Diego are retirement homes and at other venues each season.  Our winter season concerts feature seasonal and holiday music: carols, spirituals, popular tunes and sacred music from many traditions.  Spring season music includes a lively selection of musical favorites from the past century and beyond. All performance venues are within San Diego county, most within easy driving distance of  the city.  Club members are encouraged to carpool to more distant destinations. (It’s more fun to riding together!)

“Sing-out”-the period during which we schedule most performances-usually lasts three- to four-weeks at the end of each season. Winter-season Sing Out runs from early November to mid-December; Spring season Sing Out runs from April through mid-May. Performances are scheduled on weeknights or weekend days so that all members can participate.  We ask members not to schedule any vacations during the “sing-out” period and urge members to participate in all performances.

In addition to the regular concert seasons, CCSD maintains a core group of singers available for occasional performances outside of the regular seasons.  This core group is expected to learn and stay current with a core repertoire of musical standards, and to be available for special performances on short notice.  Any members interested in joining the core group should contact Music Committee Chair Caron Andregg to register their interest.

During “sing-out” season (usually a 3 to 4 week period), we will perform 8 to 10 concerts, which are scheduled on weeknights or weekend days. We ask members not to schedule any vacations during the “sing-out” season and urge members to participate in all performances.
